In case you didn't make the National Association of Realtors Conference, here are some of the funnier (and not so funny) moments from the conference.
Understatement of the day: Goes to Frances Flynn Thorsen, the community director at Trulia. We were joining her for dinner with fellow coach Joeann Fossland. They were staying about 1.5 miles from our hotel. Fran used Google to create a map that would guide our cab driver to the hotel. When Byron printed up the map, there was water--no land. He then expanded the map several times--Google had landed us West of Madagascar (off the coast of Africa.) Fran's comment--"Well sometimes they're off a little bit."
The elephant in the room: agents and brokers dumping long time company affiliations to cut overhead and survive the tough market conditions.
Amen brother! Gary Keller told it the way it is--"Many agents are cutting corners on their education to save money. This is the poorest decision that you can make. This is the time when you need education more than ever." Another owner of a major franchise said that they went against the conventional wisdom and placed even more resources in training--their business has almost doubled.
Dinosaur in the making: This internet stuff is a waste of time. Agents just need to get on the phone and get face-to-face with more clients.
Dumb move in front of 400 people: guess who forgot to plug in her power cord all the way and had her computer shut down 3/4 of the way through her presentation? (me)
