With Verizon bringing on iPhone service on February 10, you can expect a huge influx of new iPhone users. To those of you who are old pros or even if you're a newbie, here are two tips that can help make sure you have enough power all day long.
One of the most common complaints you hear from some new iPhone users is the battery life. To keep your battery running at max, here's what to do.
1.Turn off your location services: Most iPhone users will tell you the reason you have to charge your phone more often than previous phones is due to the location services. Finding you geographically requires a lot of my battery power. You can extend your battery life by turning this service off when you're not using it.
2. The silent battery hog very few people know about: I didn't realize it, but there's another power hog that most people don't know about. Apparently when you open an app on the iPhone, it stays on until you turn it off. In other words, it works much like the applications on your computer. When you open a document, open your email, or use your browser, those applications are still running in the background, even when you're not using your phone.
In fact, I turned off all the apps on my iPhone two days ago. I just checked it now and I had 14 apps running!
Here's what to do to turn off the apps on your phone and conserve battery power. First, push the control button at the bottom of your phone twice. You should notice a faded version of your home screen as well as a bunch of apps at the bottom.
The next step is to touch anyone of those apps and hold your finger still on the app for several seconds. The icons for the apps should start to shake and you'll see a "minus" sign adjacent to the app. Hit the minus sign to close the app.
Closing these apps doesn't change anything on your navigation. It just saves your battery.
Here's one other important point--if you don't close these apps, companies such as Facebook monitor what you surf to and can also monitor your location if you haven't blocked those services. Unfortunately, Big Brother is watching us, even on our phones.
