Thanks to Carol Kope for forwarding these four warning signs of a stroke. If a person who experiences a stroke can receive medical care within 3 hours of the time that the stroke occurs, doctors now have the ability to reduce or even reverse the damage. Often times the stroke victim will believe that he or she is OK. The acronym to determine if someone has had a stroke "S-T-R-O" Ask these 4 simple questions
1. "S" Ask the individual to smile
2. "T" Ask the person to talk and speak a simple sentence (coherently) such as "It is sunny out today."
3. "R" Ask him or her to raise both arms
4. "O" Stick "out" their tongue--if it is crooked or goes to one side or the other, they have had a stroke.
If the person has trouble with any of these, call 9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms. Your quick reaction can make the difference between life and death or serious disability.
